Glossary term
Competitive Range
The set of proposals judged to have a real chance of award, with which the government may conduct discussions.
After initial evaluation the contracting officer may establish a competitive range comprising the most highly rated proposals. Offerors excluded from it are notified and eliminated. If discussions are held, they occur only with offerors in the competitive range, followed by a request for Final Proposal Revisions. Exclusion is one of the more common triggers for a debriefing request.
