Micro-Purchase Threshold (MPT)
The dollar ceiling below which agencies may buy without competition, commonly using a government purchase card.
Purchases at or below the micro-purchase threshold are exempt from most competition requirements and are typically made with a government purchase card. The threshold is set by regulation and adjusted periodically for inflation — confirm the current figure in FAR Part 2 rather than relying on a remembered number. Micro-purchases are an underrated entry point: they build a transaction history and a relationship without a proposal.
