SBA Mentor-Protégé Program

An SBA program allowing a large mentor to assist a small protégé, including through a joint venture that retains small-business status.

Under an SBA-approved Mentor-Protégé Agreement, a mentor provides technical, management, and financial assistance to a protégé, and the two may form a joint venture that can compete for small-business set-asides without the mentor's size disqualifying it. It is one of the most powerful growth mechanisms available to a small federal contractor, and it requires SBA approval before the benefits apply.
