Davis-Bacon Act
The law requiring prevailing wages for laborers and mechanics on federal construction contracts.
The Davis-Bacon Act requires contractors on federal construction contracts above a dollar threshold to pay locally prevailing wages and fringe benefits, determined by the Department of Labor and attached to the solicitation. It is the construction counterpart to the Service Contract Act, and carries certified payroll reporting obligations throughout performance.
