Small Disadvantaged Business

A self-identified designation (no SBA certification required) for small businesses that are at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. SDB status is used for goal attribution and agency reporting.

Eligibility

  • Small business under SBA size standard
  • At least 51% owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals
  • Economic disadvantage thresholds mirror 8(a)

Benefits

  • Counts toward 12% government-wide SDB goal
  • Often paired with 8(a) status; 8(a) participants are automatically SDB

Self-representation in SAM.gov. 8(a) certification automatically confers SDB status.
