Buy American Act

The law preferring domestic end products in federal procurement.

The Buy American Act requires federal agencies to prefer domestic end products, defined by where the item is manufactured and the proportion of domestic component cost. The domestic content threshold has been raised in recent rulemaking, so confirm the current requirement rather than relying on an older figure. It is distinct from the Trade Agreements Act, which applies at higher dollar values.
